The above chart is based on the sunny 16 rule. The rule being that on a sunny day with an f/stop of f/16 the ISO and shutter speed will be of like values. In the film days the ISO was predetermined by the film. So film with an ISO of 100 you would set the shutter speed at 1/100 or 1/125 of second. Beyond that the above chart shows many equivalent exposures based on changing the ISO and f/stop.
Since I was a small child, visual stimulation has been an important factor in my life. From the stereo color nature slides a doctor used during eye therapy, to my first camera at eight years old. And my Uncle Tony whom had the coolest darkroom.

Book recommendations
To get the best out of your camera the most important resources you have is the manual that comes with your camera. Beyond your camera manual I have a couple of recommendations;
Exposure; From Snapshots To Great Shots
2nd edition
by Jeff Revell
published by Peachpit Press

Understanding Exposure; How To Shot Great Photos With Any Camera

Both books provide excellent information and you should add one of them to your library. Either of these books can be purchased at Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
